New period drama Lady Macbeth is released in cinemas next week and above, you can watch an exclusive clip taken from the acclaimed film which features an astounding performance from rising star Florence Pugh.

Directed by William Oldroyd, the film is loosely adapted from Russian writer's Nikolaj Leskov's 19th-century novella titled Lady Macbeth of Mtsensk District.

Set in 1865, the story follows Katherine, a girl who - after entering a loveless marriage to a bitter man twice her age - has her hunger for power sparked after she embarks on an affair with a young worker (Comso Jarvis) on her husband's estate.

Adapted by playwright Alice Birch, Lady Macbeth co-stars Paul Hilton (Wuthering Heights), Christopher Fairbank (Guardians of the Galaxy) and newcomer Naomi Ackie,

Pugh's previous credits include Carol Morley drama The Falling which she starred in alongside Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams.

Lady Macbeth is released in cinemas on 28 April 2017. Live Broadcast Q&A from the Victoria and Albert Museum April 27.
