There is some major hype surrounding La La Land; the musical follow-up to Damien Chazelle's 2014 sleeper hit Whiplash, which pitched student against teacher in an utterly gripping, sweat-dripped drama about the toils of jazz drumming (no, really).
Certainly a change of pace, La La Land promises a neon-soaked, dreamy take on the classic Golden Age musical, all big-hearted romance and wholesome glamour.
And its newest trailer is a treat; threatening to steal the hearts of audiences as they lose themselves within the dizzying lights of Tinseltown, lost in the grand romance between stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone. The pair play a couple of dreamers just trying to make it big in Hollywood; she, a lonely aspiring actress, and he, a cocky jazz pianist.
This is the third time the pair have collaborated, previously co-starring in Crazy Stupid Love and Gangster Squad; the former a strong display of their onscreen chemistry together. While the first trailer displayed Gosling's vocal talents with a rendition of original song, "City of Stars"; it's Stone's turn this time round, as her soulful voice brings character to another song from the film, "Audition".
Here's the official synopsis:
Written and directed by Academy Award® nominee Damien Chazelle, LA LA LAND tells the story of Mia [Emma Stone], an aspiring actress, and Sebastian [Ryan Gosling], a dedicated jazz musician, who are struggling to make ends meet in a city known for crushing hopes and breaking hearts. Set in modern day Los Angeles, this original musical about everyday life explores the joy and pain of pursuing your dreams.
The film is set to premiere at the Venice Film Festival, before hitting UK cinemas 13 January 2017.
