The 39-year-old British-Indian actor will be joined by Batman’s Paul Dano and Promising Young Woman star Carey Mulligan.
Nayyar took to Instagram to announce the news. He wrote: “Spaceman of Bohemia. Should be a fun summer. Link in bio. Takeoff”
The film is set to adapt the 2017 novel The Spaceman of Bohemia by Jaroslav Kalfar, which follows a space explorer leaving on an independent mission into the unknown.
As recently revealed by Deadline, the film will be directed and produced by Chernobyl filmmaker Johan Renck and the team of Channing Tatum, Reid Carolin, Peter Kiernan, and Michael Parets for Free Association respectively.
The synopsis reads: “Sandler is an astronaut sent to the edge of the galaxy to collect mysterious ancient dust as he finds his earthly life falling to pieces.
“He turns to the only voice who can help him try to put it back together. It just so happens to belong to a creature from the beginning of time lurking in the shadows of his ship.”
Nayyar has previously starred in the beloved American television sitcom The Big Bang Theory created by Chuck Lorre and Bill Prady, where he played the role of Rajesh Koothrapali.
The show debuted on CBS on 24 September 2007, and concluded on 16 May 2019, having broadcast a total of 279 episodes over twelve seasons.
In 2020, Nayyar received acclaim for his performance as a cold and calculating killer, Sandeep Singh, in Netflix’s hit series Criminal.
