From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Earlier this year, a sequel to 2012's Snow White and the Huntsman saw Chris Hemsworth return sans the first film's lead, Kristen Stewart.

When production began on The Huntsman: Winter's War, it was reported the Stewart had been dropped from Universal's planned follow-up - however, the actor has now attributed her lack of involvement to poor story ideas.

News of Stewart's axing followed reports that she had started a relationship with the film's director, Rupert Sanders, who was married at the time.

The actor told Variety: “It wasn’t a situation where I got kicked off a movie because I got in trouble. We had been in talks months after that about making something work, and it never came together.”

“I read a few scripts," she continued. "None of them were good. None of them were greenlight-able. And I had a meeting with Universal about the places where the story could go. Maybe Chris was more into it. I actually don’t f*cking know.”

Since appearing in the Twilight franchise, Stewart has starred in several independent films with two - Woody Allen's Café Society and Oliver Assayas' Personal Shopper - debuting at this year's Cannes Film Festival.

Reflecting on her decision to shun the Snow White sequel, the actor - referencing the film's box office flop - said: "...now I'm like... 'Thank God.'"
