That's the question set to be inevitably answered by Warner Bros.' upcoming Kong: Skull Island, a new take on the giant ape that hopes to overshadow its predecessors, if only by mere size alone. As the first trailer, unveiled at this year's Comic-Con, reveals; this Kong is a big guy. Much, much bigger than his Empire State Building-climbing compatriots.
It's an obvious route to upping the stakes, especially when it's following Peter Jackson's 2005 blockbuster King Kong movie; this film is a clean reboot for the series, hoping instead to tie narratively with Gareth Edwards' Godzilla film, with the inevitable Godzilla vs King Kong set for a 2020 release.
The trailer's also clearly hoping to echo the tension of Edwards' monster movie; with director Jordan Vogt-Roberts bringing terror in heaps, when previous Kong movies had focused more on the ape's more sentimental, heroic side.

In the 1970s, a diverse team of explorers is brought together to venture deep into an uncharted island in the Pacific—as beautiful as it is treacherous—unaware that they’re crossing into the domain of the mythic Kong.
The film stars Tom Hiddleston, Samuel L. Jackson, Brie Larson, Jason Mitchell, Corey Hawkins, Toby Kebbell, Tom Wilkinson, Terry Notary, John Goodman and John C. Reilly.
Kong: Skull Island hits cinemas 10 March 2017.
