Justice League: First look at full team confirms massive spoiler

It certainly looks as if one of the team may have a certain mortal inconvenience to overcome here

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Though the main focus of hype at the Warner Bros. panel at this year's Comic-Con may surround Wonder Woman, which landed its very first action-packed trailer, the studio is still keen to look further into the future.

That involves Zack Snyder's upcoming Justice League movie, which hopes to tie together the DC heroes into one Avengers-style epic team film; following on directly from the events of his previous DC outing, Batman v Superman.

Previewing the film at Comic-Con's Hall H, attendees were treated with a surprise visit from the full Justice League team itself; Ben Affleck (Batman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Ezra Miller (The Flash), Ray Fisher (Cyborg), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), and... Henry Cavill? The same Henry Cavill who plays a supposedly now-dead Superman?

This probably is a surprise to no one, but the accompanying first look at the Justice League team sees Superman right in with the rest of the gang; even though he supposedly sacrificed himself at the end of Batman v Superman. He's been included in previous concept art before, but one might have been led to think this was a double-bluff to keep audiences in the dark about Batman v Superman's twist.

Yet, this new image appears simply to be Warner Bros. alluding to most audiences' assumptions Superman would make a return in Justice League; though his exclusion from the film's first trailer supports the idea his will be a late entry, with the film's dramatic crux potentially surrounding whatever dark forces led to his resurrection.

Though it will certainly boost anticipation for Justice League, all of this inevitably comes at the expense of its predecessor; with any illusion of dramatic tension in Batman v. Superman's finale fast dissipating. Though considering the latter's poor reception, perhaps Warner Bros. are merely in the game of sacrificing its elders for the boon of its newcomers.

Justice League hits UK cinemas 17 November, 2017.
