Danny Glover has joined the cast of the follow up to Sony’s Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle.

The Lethal Weapon actor’s role is currently unknown, according to a report from The Hollywood Reporter.

Glover has become the third addition, along with Oceans Eight actor Awkwafina and It’s Always Sunny in Philidelphia‘s Danny DeVito, to the already bulging cast.

Dwayne Johnson, Kevin Hart, Jack Black and Karen Gillan reprise their roles from the original, which grossed $962 million worldwide, while Jake Kasdan returns as director.

Johnson said of Glover joining the cast: “From Awkwafina to Danny DeVito to now one of my action heroes, Danny Glover – it’s been awesome having so many actors and OG legends raise their hands wanting to come and play in our Jumanji universe. Who turns into who?’ will always be the fun magic sauce for our audience.”

The Jumanji franchise centres around the world featured in the original 1995 picture starring Robin Williams, itself an adaptation of a picture book by Chris Van Allsburg.

Sony has kept details regarding the sequel out of the public eye, having not released any information regarding the new characters.

Scott Rosenberg and Jeff Pinkner have return as screenwriters, while Matt Tolmach will produce again alongside Johnson, Kasdan, Dany Garcia and Hiram Garcia.

Danny Glover is best-known for his role as Detective Roger Murtaugh in the popular Lethal Weapon franchise. More recently, the veteran actor has appeared in The Old Man and the Gun and Sorry to Bother You, both released last year.

The sequel to Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle is penned to hit cinemas in the US on 13 December.
