Jonah Hill is in negotiations to play an iconic Batman villain in the forthcoming Robert Pattinson reboot of the DC Comics hero, but hasn’t yet decided which one.

According to the Hollywood Reporter, talks between Hill and Warner Bros are “at an early and sensitive stage” as both sides can’t decide which villain Hill would play – with both The Penguin and The Riddler top candidates.

Sources tell Collider, however, that Hill has never been considered for The Penguin and will officially be playing The Riddler, as director Matt Reeves believed casting Hill as The Penguin would be “a little too on-the-nose”.

The Batman will be Hill’s second stab at characters in the DC Universe, the Oscar nominee having previously voiced Green Lantern in the Lego Movie franchise.

The Batman has been described as a “grounded” take on the Dark Knight, with Reeves taking inspiration from the hard-boiled noir tone of the earliest Batman comics. There has been speculation that a number of different villains will appear in the film.

Pattinson will play Batman, while Jeffrey Wright was last night cast as Commissioner Gordon.

Pattinson’s former Twilight co-star Kristen Stewart said earlier this month that Pattinson has “the perfect cheekbones” for the Batman role, and that she felt he was “the only guy that could play that part”.

The Batman will be released on 25 June 2021.
