Most actors relish the opportunity to stand in front of their peers, award in hand, listing off everyone they know - Johnny Deep doesn’t.
Asked by BBC Newsbeat whether he wants an Oscar for his portrayal of a gangster in Black Mass, the actor said: "I don't want to win one of those things ever, you know.”
His reasoning for not wanting the award he’s rumoured to be in the running for: “I don’t want to have to talk.”
"They gave me one of those things, like a nomination, two or three times. A nomination is plenty.”
Depp previously received Oscar nominations for his roles in the first Pirates of the Caribbean, Finding Neverland and Sweeney Todd.
He continued: ”The idea of winning means that you're in competition with someone and I'm not in competition with anybody. I just stick to my guns and do what I want to do. Sometimes people don't like it but that's alright."
Depp also commented on how his latest role has been seen as a ‘comeback’ by some critics: “What did I come back from? The dead? I haven't done anything different in this than I have in any other film."
Black Mass is in cinemas in the US now, and opens in the UK on 27 November.
