From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Directed by Robert Rodriguez, 100 Years has been billed as "the movie you will never see" and Malkovich is bringing the film to this year's Cannes Film Festival - appropriately locked away in a safe.
Apparently, the special safe is programmed to open "automatically in 100 years when the timing is complete... to ensure that 100 Years remains secure until its official premiere."
General delegate of Cannes Film Festival Thierry Frémaux has deemed Rodriguez's film "an innovative cinematographic project," telling Entertainment Weekly: "I hope that our descendants will consider the movie 100 Years for the Palme d’Or at Cannes Film Festival in 2116".
Speaking in a behind-the-scenes clip, Malkovich said: "Part of the notion inherent in this is for us to try to imagine what the world will be like in 100 years."
Rodriguez added: "I was intrigued by the concept of working on a film that nobody would ever see in my lifetime."
100 Years - The Movie You Will Never See, made in conjunction with Louis XIII cognac, will be released 18 November 2115 on the same day as a new Marvel film (probably).
