Your support makes all the difference.John Boyega has called out “toxic” Star Wars fans on Twitter, saying he doesn’t “f***” with them anymore.
The actor played the role of reformed Stormtrooper, Finn, in Disney’s sequel trilogy (comprised of The Force Awakens, The Last Jedi and The Rise of Skywalker).
“Toxic Star Wars fans still find their way to my mentions,” he tweeted on Friday night (21 August). “Lord. Must I be blunt? I don’t f*** with you no more.”
In a second post, he wrote: “Lord waited so long to tell the toxic fans to fack off.”
It is not clear how fans were being "toxic" towards Boyega, but one person commented on his tweets, writing: "Those Star Wars fans that you find toxic to your series of Star Wars were actually rooting for you, my friend. We knew that you were a better actor for which you were used, and that your character's potential was vastly lost. Don't be so quick to judge. Favourable journeys forward."
Last month, Boyega said he has “moved on” from the Star Wars franchise, amid calls for him to reprise his character in future films.
On Instagram, Boyega posted a picture of himself on a film set with the caption: “Back on set!” Underneath, a fan commented: “Force Finn in action with green lightsaber dressed in black is all I want from the next SW film!”
Boyega responded to the suggestion by writing: “lol no thank you. I’ve moved on.”
Reacting to a comment by another fan, the actor clarified that he is “not into playing one role for too long”, adding that he has “more to offer than that”.
Earlier this year, Boyega described Rise of Skywalker as “very fulfilling” but admitted it had “some disappointments”. The film received an underwhelming reaction from critics and fans.
In January, Boyega clashed with Star Wars fans over a “disgusting” joke he made about the sex life of Daisy Ridley’s character Rey.
He had made the crude joke on Instagram, after responding to a fan who remarked that the death of his character’s romantic rival in The Rise of Skywalker had enabled him to potentially date Rey.
“It’s not about who she kisses but who eventually lays the pipe. You are a genius,” Boyega responded.
Some fans, however, did not see the funny side of Boyega’s joke, with one writing: “Bro you’re extremely disgusting and gross also f***ing disrespectful…”
In response, Boyega wrote: “You obviously don’t know the difference between a fictional world and reality.”
He added in another tweet that Ridley herself would recognise said difference, writing: “Daisy knows she isn’t the character. Lol so tbh she doesn’t give AF.”
