From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Jo Andres has died at the age of 65.

The filmmaker, choreographer and artist was married to actor Steve Buscemi for more than 30 years. According to E! News, the cause of death has not been made public.

Andres gained recognition in the New York City performance scene of the 1980s, using film projections as a backdrop for dance performances.

She then began directing, finding critical acclaim for her 1996 film Black Kite, which aired on US television channel PBS and played at Sundance, Berlin, Toronto and London film festivals.

Andres and Buscemi married in 1987. They welcomed one child together, son Lucian, in 1990.

In a 2009 interview with The Independent, Buscemi said his favorite work of art is “something by my wife Jo Andres. She paints, she makes films, she has done performance.”
