Your support makes all the difference.Just days ago, JK Simmons gave the internet a lot of hope; hope that he would once again reprise his role as J. Johan Jameson in the upcoming Spider-Man reboot.
"Being in those movies with Sam [Raimi] was one of the great joys of my career," he said. "It was a super fun character so I'll never close the door on anything.”
Unfortunately, it seems Simmons was just toying with Marvel fans, as it has now been announced that he will play Commissioner Gordon in DC’s rival superhero franchise.
The Hollywood Reporter revealed that the Oscar-winning actor will first appear as the comic book character in the upcoming Justice League Part One, with him likely signing on to also appear in Justice League Part Two and the as-yet untitled Batman solo film.
Zack Snyder’s Justice League will be in cinemas after the upcoming Batman v Superman, which takes part in the same cinematic universe but won’t feature Simmons.
Also appearing in the film will be Ben Affleck (Batman), Henry Cavil (Superman), Gal Gadot (Wonder Woman), Jason Momoa (Aquaman), Ezra Miller (The Flash) and Ray Fisher (Cyborg).
Commissioner Gordon has been played by numerous actors over the years, including Lyle Talbot in 1949, Neil Hamilton in the 60s, Pat Hingle and Joel Schumacher in Tim Burton’s series, Gary Oldman in The Dark Knight trilogy and - most recently - Ben McKenzie in the TV show Gotham.
With the news likely meaning Simmons will be unable to appear in any future Marvel films, fans are hoping to get Oldman onboard as The Daily Bugle’s editor in chief. Someone start a petition.
