From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Jennifer Lawrence has shared details of stomach problems that left her hospitalised prior to walking the red carpet at The Hunger Games: Catching Fire LA premiere on Monday.

In usual candid style, the gutsy 23-year old actress told chat show host David Letterman she had suffered from "really bad pain" for three weeks before deciding that "you can only s*** your pants so many times a day before you go to the emergency room".

Known for speaking openly, Lawrence revealed in typically ballsy detail how a suspected ulcer had fortunately turned out to be a "falser".

Wrapped in a pink duvet on Letterman's The Late Show, she described struggling to think of nice things before undergoing an endoscopy. "The last thing I said was 'I'm paralysed!'", the actress laughed.

"I dreamed there was a nuclear bomb that went off and the first lucid conversation I remember having was about the Kardashians."

When asked by the New York Daily News how she was feeling at the New York premiere of Catching Fire, the actress replied "Good, just gassy".

Lawrence is not easily embarrassed, as proved when she brushed off a trip up the stairs to collect her Best Actress award at the Oscars in February.

Reviews for The Hunger Games: Catching Fire have been mixed, with The Independent's Geoffrey Macnab praising Lawrence's "full-blooded" performance but writing that the sequel "fails to satisfy".
