A major report by the New York Times detailed decades of allegations of sexual harassment levied against producer, including by actors Rose McGowan and Ashley Judd; Weinstein has since been fired from The Weinstein Company. They stated: "His employment is terminated, effective immediately".
In a statement to Variety, Lawrence said she had never personally witnessed any inappropriate behaviour from Weinstein, but that she was in full support of the women who came forward.
"I was deeply disturbed to hear the news about Harvey Weinstein’s behaviour," Lawrence stated. "I worked with Harvey five years ago and I did not experience any form of harassment personally, nor did I know about any of these allegations. This kind of abuse is inexcusable and absolutely upsetting."
"My heart goes out to all of the women affected by these gross actions. And I want to thank them for their bravery to come forward," she added.
The Academy Award-winner, who won in 2013 for the Weinstein-produced Silver Linings Playbook, joins the increasing chorus of prominent Hollywood voices lending their support to those speaking out against Weinstein.
Meryl Streep, Kate Winslet, Judi Dench, Glenn Close, George Clooney, and Jessica Chastain are amongst those who have denounced the producer.
