This election is still a dead heat, according to most polls. In a fight with such wafer-thin margins, we need reporters on the ground talking to the people Trump and Harris are courting. Your support allows us to keep sending journalists to the story.

Fans of Star Wars: The Last Jedi are convinced they spotted another famous face among some of the confirmed cameos.

James Corden was reportedly spotted in a very brief clip before being "blown up" in the film that sees the return of Rey [Daisy Ridley] who trains with the reclusive Luke Skywalker [Mark Hamill].

Celebrity cameos have become something of a fan favourite in the franchise. Following on from the many to have taken place in JJ Abrams' The Force Awakens back in 2015 (Daniel Craig as a stormtrooper! Simon Pegg as a Jakuu junk dealer!), director Rian Johnson handed out several small roles to stars of film, TV and music.

Among the confirmed appearances were Justin Theroux, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Noah Segan, Gareth Edwards, Lily Cole, Ellie Goulding, Edgar Wright, Warwick Davis, and the late Carrie Fisher's dog Gary.

Now fans believe that The Late Late Show host James Corden is also in a scene near the beginning of the film:

Corden missed the latest episode of The Late Late Show after his wife went into labour, prompting singer and actor Harry Styles to step in as guest host.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi managed to set a record for the second-biggest Thursday night opening in North America last week.

The Disney-Lucasfilm’s “Star Wars: The Last Jedi” opened with $45m (£33.7m) last week, behind Star Wars: The Force Awakens which earned $57m (£42.7m) in 2015.

The Independent has contacted a representative for James Corden for comment, but none had arrived at the time of publication.
