According to Variety, Jessica Chastain has entered into negotiations to play Beverly, the red headed girl first portrayed by Sophia Lillis.
Sources tell the publication the negotiations are still ongoing as the script — penned by Gary Dauberman — remains unfinished. Things look promising, especially considering Chastain appeared in director Andy Muschietti’s debut Mama.
The actor has been linked to the role on multiple occasions, being rumoured to appear in the original’s post-credits scene and Chastain having having expressed interest in the role.
"I love Andy and Barbara [Muschietti]. I worked with them on Andy's directorial debut [Mama]. And, you know, Barbara is one of my best friends so... we'll see," she said.
"They're my friends. They're like my family. Anything that they're doing I want to be a part of, so I hope we can make it happen."
No other casting announcements for Chapter 2 have been revealed. The sequel will reach cinemas 6 September 2019.
