Marvel’s Hollywood takeover has been somewhat unbelievable; who would have thought ten years ago that a comic book-based studio would be pumping out billion dollar blockbuster after blockbuster?
However, Kevin Feige - head of Marvel Studios - and his team may be forced to put the breaks on for a minute, with news breaking that the studio plans to push back one of its flagship movies.
According to Collider, Feige expects Inhumans to be delayed due to the ever-shifting Phase Three roster of films and Disney's plan to reboot Indiana Jones. Already, the film was moved from 2 November 2018 to 12 July 2019 due to Spider-Man entering the Marvel Cinematic Universe, yet it now looks set to be even later. A script for the Inhumans film was first drafted in 2011, with development moving forward in 2014.
“Since we made our initial phase three announcement, we added Spider-Man, which was a big joyous coup for us. We added Ant-Man and the Wasp, which was a big fun continuation of that story for us.
“Walt Disney Company has announced an Indiana Jones film for right around that same time. So I think it will shuffle off the current date that it’s on right now. How far down it shuffles, I’m not sure yet.”
In Marvel’s TV, Agents of Shield, the Inhumans (who are basically another version of X-Men) have played a significant role, with one of the cast’s leads being an active Inhuman. When asked whether he were cancelling the film because of the show, Feige confirmed they weren’t and that it was merely a time issue.
There are currently 14 Marvel films in the pipeline, including the upcoming Captain America: Civil War and three ‘as-yet untitled’ films. Meanwhile, superheroes Thor and Star-Lord have been confirmed to be appearing in Avengers: Infinity War.
