From the X-Men to Spider-Man, Iron Man and Batman, the general public are seemingly obsessed with the spandex wearing heroes, many of which culminate in a city or two blowing up.
Recently, this trend has become particularly prevalent: earlier this year, both Batman v Superman and X-Men: Apocalypse saw huge amounts of destruction. According to Roland Emmerich, it’s all his fault.
In a recent interview with Loaded, the Independence Day director said: “I felt like when I saw some of these Marvel movies or DC movies from Warners. I felt, ‘oh my God that looks familiar to me’. Why is Superman bashing so many buildings?
“I was actually warned already by Steven Spielberg that this will happen. He said Independence Day will be the most imitated film of the next 20 years – and he was right.”
With advancements in CGI, the ease in which huge amounts of destruction can be shown has increased, leading to a wave of films such as the aforementioned superhero films, but also the likes of Michael Bay’s Transformers series and the possibility of numerous Independence Day films.
