Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

In the first look at what appears to be the greatest movie of 2019, or possibly the best movie of all time, Jennifer Lopez, Constance Wu, Cardi B and Lizzo play members of a squad of New York strippers shaking down Wall Street in the first trailer for Hustlers.

Inspired by true events, and adapted from Jessica Pressler’s viral New York Magazine story The Hustlers at Scores, the film tells the story of a group of New York strippers who drugged and robbed a number of Wall Street bankers in the months after the 2008 stock market crash.

Keke Palmer, Lili Reinhart, Trace Lysette and Madeline Brewer are among the members of Lopez’s crew, while Julia Stiles portrays the journalist chasing the story.

Written and directed by Lorene Scafaria, in what is her follow-up to the sweet indie dramedy The Meddler, the film looks set to be a glitzy, grungy cross between The Wolf of Wall Street and Ocean’s Eleven.

Hustlers is due to be released in UK cinemas 13 September 2019.
