X-Men stars Hugh Jackman and Sir Patrick Stewart have set a superhero world record.
The actors have achieved the feat of playing live-action Marvel characters – namely Wolverine and Charles Xavier – for the longest time.
They were presented with the trophy by the Guinness Book of Records on ITV daytime show This Morning.
Jackman, who performed at last night's Brits, received a video message from Stewart, saying: “Hi, Hugh my dear. I have discovered that you and I are now in the Guinness Book of Records. Congratulations, my friend. There’s another thing to hang on your wall.”
Both stars appeared as the characters for the first time in 2000 film X-Men right up until Logan in 2017. Compiled, that’s a total time of 16 years and 228 days.
Logan served as a swansong for the characters. Both actors have been insistent that their time with the X-Men franchise is done, despite the film series continuing with Dark Phoenix.
Jackman and Stewart’s closest competitor is Robert Downey Jr, who will snatch the record if he’s still playing Iron Man in the Marvel Cinematic Universe in six years time.
