From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. A first official photo of Lady Gaga and Adam Driver in House of Gucci has been unveiled, giving a glimpse of what’s to come in Ridley Scott’s crime film.

Lady Gaga shared the photo on social media with the caption: “Signore e Signora Gucci”, which translates to “Mr and Mrs Gucci”.

Driver and Lady Gaga star respectively as Maurizio Gucci, the former head of the Gucci fashion house (founded by his grandfather Guccio Gucci in 1921), and Patrizia Reggiani, Maurizio Gucci’s former wife.

The image, which shows both actors posing in character and wearing skiing apparel, has attracted hundreds of thousands of likes on social media, stoking enthusiasm for the upcoming movie.

Here is everything we know about the film so far:

What is it about?

The film is based on the 2012 book The House of Gucci: A Sensational Story of Murder, Madness, Glamour, and Greed by Sara Gay Forden.

The book is a nonfiction account of how Reggiani was convicted in 1998 of ordering her former husband Maurizio Gucci’s murder. The pair had split in 1985. Gucci was shot dead in 1995 outside his office in Milan.

Reggiani was sentenced to 29 years in prison, later reduced to 26 years on appeal. She was released in 2016 and told The Observer in a profile that same year: “I think I am a very strong person because I survived all these years in captivity. I slept a lot. I took care of my plants. I looked after Bambi, my pet ferret.”

She added on the same topic: “I don’t like to talk about this time at all. It is all a bad dream to me.”

Who is in it?

In addition to Driver and Lady Gaga, House of Gucci will feature Al Pacino as Aldo Gucci (Maurizio’s uncle), Jared Leto as Paolo Gucci (Aldo’s son and Maurizio’s cousin), Jeremy Irons as Rodolfo Gucci (Maurizio’s father), and Camille Cottin as Paola Franchi, Maurizio Gucci’s partner after Reggiani.

When will it be released?

House of Gucci is scheduled for release in the US on 24 November 2021, with this year marking the 100th anniversary of the creation of the house of Gucci.

A specific UK release date has yet to be confirmed.

How can I watch it?

House of Gucci will likely be released at least in select cinemas, though of course those elements will be confirmed closer to the release, depending on the state of the coronavirus pandemic.

So far, there are no plans to have a streaming premiere, which several films have resorted to due to cinema closures tied to the pandemic.
