Days after Donald Trump described appearing in the Home Alone franchise as an “honour”, a Canadian TV station removed the president’s cameo from a Christmas broadcast.

Trump appears in Home Alone 2: Lost in New York but, according to viewers, the brief moment was completely edited out of CBC’s showing on the film.

A spokesperson for the channel has since denied removing the US president for political reasons.

“As is often the case with features adapted for television, Home Alone 2 was edited to allow for commercial time within the format,” a representative said.

On Christmas Eve (24 December), Trump mentioned the 1992 sequel during a conference call with members of the military.

Deadline reports that, when asked if it’s his favourite Christmas film, he replied: “A lot of people mention it every year, especially around Christmas. They say – especially young kids – they say, ‘I just saw you on the movie.’ They don’t see me on television as they do in the movie.

“I was a little younger, to put it mildly,” he added. “It was an honour to do it.”

He continued: “It turned out to be a very big hit, obviously. It’s a big Christmas hit – one of the biggest. So it’s an honour to be involved in something like that. You always like to see success.”

In 2017, Matt Damon revealed the bizarre reason Trump filmed several cameo roles back in the 1990s.

Home Alone, which is set to be remade for Disney+, features on our ranking of the greatest festive films of all time.
