From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Hey girl, are you sick of Ryan Gosling yet? The actor has announced he’s taking a hiatus from Hollywood, telling The Associated Press: “I need a break from myself as much as I imagine the audience does.”

I’m pretty sure most women (and quite a number of men as well) would beg to differ, and happily argue that there could be no such thing as too many Ryan Gosling films.

Fans shouldn’t despair just yet, though. He still has three films due for release this year and he’ll make his directorial debut, How to Catch a Monster, in 2014.

But giving his reasons for going on sabbatical, Gosling goes all luvvie on us. “I’ve been doing it too much. I’ve lost perspective on what I’m doing,” he said. “I think it’s good for me to take a break and reassess why I’m doing it and how I’m doing it. And I think this is probably a good way to learn about that.”

Yeah, yeah Ryan. It’s only acting, darling. Just get on with it.
