Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The annual film distribution convention, ShowEast, is scheduled at the Orlando World Center Marriott, October 26-29. The Florida event on the east coast of the US happens before Thanksgiving and Christmas film releases when big box office receipts are expected and films are eligible for Oscar and Golden Globe nominations.
Upcoming studio and independent feature films are screened and promoted for the holiday season at this trade show for film buyers and exhibitors. Theater products, equipment, and services are exhibited, and at seminars the latest news in the business is discussed. On the final night, Hollywood stars, filmmakers and industry marketing executives gather at the gala banquet.
Topics at the educational panels include updates on new media and digital cinema, piracy, international marketing, and 3D. In the "Moviegoers 2010" session, a research study will be presented from Stradella Road, a consulting firm that integrates traditional and new media marketing and branding strategies for the entertainment industry.
The "Moviegoers" report surveyed 4,000 moviegoers who provided valuable information revealing an "overwhelming number of people of all age groups who have fully adopted digital technologies and increasingly depend on them to gain information about new movie releases and decisions about which movies to see." For instance, 52 percent acquire film release information from the internet compared to 21 percent from newspapers.
Screenings include Men Who Stare at Goats (George Clooney), The Daybreakers, Me & Orson Welles, The Blind Side, 2012 (John Cusack), Up in the Air, The Young Victoria and Lionsgate's Precious: Based on the Novel ‘Push' by Sapphire.
The conference is sponsored by the Nielsen Film Group, which also hosts ShoWest in Las Vegas in the Spring, the Asian market in Hong Kong in December, and the international market in the Netherlands next year.
