Rose McGowan has accused Ben Affleck of lying in the actor's statement regarding the sexual assault and harassment allegations against film producer Harvey Weinstein.

The actor, who has worked with Weinstein on numerous occasion, shared a screenshot of a Facebook post which condemned his “unacceptable” actions.

“I am saddened and angry that a man who I worked with used his position of power to intimidate, sexually harass, and manipulate women over decades,” Affleck wrote. “This is completely unacceptable.”

However, McGowan - one of the women revealed to have reached a settlement with Weinstein - has since suggested that Affleck knew of Weinstein's behaviour tweeting out a message of the words she claims Affleck spoke he found out what had allegedly occurred.

These words were: “Goddamnit! I told him to stop doing that!”

McGowan continued: “you said that to my face. The press conf I was made to go to after assault [sic]. You lie.

“Ben Afflec f*ck off,” she added.

Matt Damon and Russell Crowe came under fire following suggestions that they "helped kill a 2004 report" by journalist Sharon Waxman detailing Weinstein's actions, however Damon denied the allegations issuing a statement to Deadline which Waxman later endorsed.

Two separate investigations into the decades-worth of allegations faced by Weinstein surfaced in The New York Times and The New Yorker over the past week inspiring numerous Hollywood stars - including Gwyneth Paltrow and Angelina Jolie - to come forward with their unsettling experiences with the producer.

The latter exposé features three accusations of rape.

Actors ranging from Jennifer Lawrence and Meryl Streep to Mark Ruffalo and Jessica Chastain have criticised Weinstein both for his alleged behaviour and his statement in response to the allegations.

However, one Hollywood star has leaped to Weinstein's defence - Mean Girls actor Lindsay Lohan posted a bizarre series of Instagram videos in which she described what was happening to him as “very wrong.”

The producer - whose wife Georgina Chapman announced today (11 October) she is to separate from him - was fired from his position at the Weinstein Company in the wake of the allegations.
