Gwyneth Paltrow has announced plans to retire from the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

The 46-year-old actor has played Pepper Potts, Tony Stark’s personal assistant turned friend and love interest, since the first Iron Man film came out in 2008.

Since then, she has made several more appearances across the Iron Man and Avengers franchises, with a 2017 cameo in Spider-Man: Homecoming.

But according to Variety, who published an interview with Paltrow on Tuesday, the actor is now planning to retire her character after Avengers: Endgame comes out in April this year.

“I mean, I’m a bit old to be in a suit and all that at this point,” Paltrow told the publication.

She added: “I feel very lucky that I did it, because I actually got talked into it. I was friend with [Iron Man director] Jon Favreau. It was such a wonderful experience making the first Iron Man and then to watch how important it has become to fans.”

Still, the actor acknowledged the possibility that she could return for more cameos in the future, as she has done for Avengers: Infinity War and the first Avengers movie in 2012.

Should the team behind the films ask her to return for a day, Paltrow said she would “always be there” when needed.
