From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Star Wars Episode 7 plot leaks are coming thick and fast this week, with the latest rumour being that Game of Thrones' Gwendoline Christie will play an Imperial officer or possibly a Sith trying to hunt down John Boyega's AWOL Stormtrooper.

Badass Digest offered a deluge off unconfirmed plot details on Monday, claiming that much of the film will centre around the search for Luke Skywalker, who disappeared after the events of Return of the Jedi.

The site now claims to have heard some titbits surrounding Christie's role, initially saying she will play an Imperial officer trying to hunter Boyega's character down, but later admitting this flies in the face of the fact she has reportedly been seen training with a lightsaber – possibly meaning the character is in fact a Sith.

Christie's part is thought to have been gender swapped during re-drafts of the script, and may have been the one Benedict Cumberbatch was originally linked with.

We already know what Christie will look like with a lightsaber, thanks to this Game of Thrones-Star Wars mash-up:

Star Wars: Episode VII will hit cinemas on 18 December, 2015.
