From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The first film, which helped launch Chris Pratt to leading actor status, was a surprise success, proving that Marvel release almost anything (even Ant-Man) and it will gross millions upon millions of dollars.
James Gunn’s lovable band of misfits were, of course, central to the intergalactic story, the five members - Star-Lord, Groot, Drax, Gamora, and Groot - going from acquaintances to friends withing the film.
The sequel looks set to add three new members to the team, two of whom we saw in the original film - Yondu and Nebula - the latter of which was an adversary to the Guardians.
Posting concept art from the film on Facebook, director Gunn confirmed that Yondu will indeed be a member of the new crew, while Nebula's role will be more ambiguous.
Meanwhile, the third new member, Mantis, will play a primary role and will not have green skin like in the comics.
Speaking about the upcoming film in a recent interview, Gunn said: "It's both a bigger movie and a smaller movie because we focus more intensely on some of the characters.”
He also discussed whether Star-Lord’s father would play any part in the film, adding: “We get to learn a lot more about fathers in the second movie, [So] we focus a lot on that.”
Kurt Russell is thought to be playing Peter’s dad, his performance having moved the cast and crew to tears during filming.
