Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference.Sure, Leonardo DiCaprio gave a pretty memorable performance in The Revenant, grunting primordially and eating raw bison liver, but was it as captivating as this Vine-ready Golden Globes moment?
The actor, who himself won an award at the ceremony (does an Oscar finally beckon?) was seen laughing and pointing as Gaga accepted her Best Actress in a Miniseries or Television Film prize, before accidentally nearly tripping her up and offering a Chaplin-esque look of puzzlement.
Was he too confused as to why Gaga won instead of Kirsten Dunst for her excellent work in Fargo? No, he was probably just chuckling about something else with his co-stars, but damnit, the former is the narrative the internet wants to believe.
Gaga collected her first Golden Globe for American Horror Story: Hotel at the bash, while DiCaprio picked up the night's biggest male acting award for The Revenant.
It was a good night for Alejandro G. Inarittu's bear attack survival film, which also ensnared Best Motion Picture, Drama and Best Director - Motion Picture.
