Your support makes all the difference.George Clooney is to be honoured for his contribution to cinema as the recipient of the Cecil B DeMille Award at the Golden Globes in January, organisers announced on Monday.
The Oscar-winning actor, director and producer, 53, is one of Hollywood’s leading figures ad has previously received three Golden Globe Awards.
The high profile awards ceremony is organised by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association; president Theo Kingma said Clooney had been selected for his “outstanding contributions both in front of and behind the camera”.
Clooney’s work as an actor has encompassed roles in Ocean’s Eleven, Gravity and Syriana, for which he won an Academy Award. Meanwhile he has produced movies including last year’s August: Osage County and Argo, which also earned him an Oscar.
Most recently, Clooney directed Second World War drama The Monuments Men and he is set to take the helm for Sony Pictures' Hack Attack, based on the UK phone hacking scandal.
The Cecil B DeMille Award is bestowed for "outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment". It is named after the influential Hollywood director who spanned both the silent and sound eras of film.
Last year, it was awarded to prolific director Woody Allen, who sent actress Diane Keaton to pick up the accolade.
