From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

George Clooney’s three-year-old son, Alexander, bowled into the room while the actor was being interviewed as GQ’s 2020 Icon of the Year.

The interruption came while Oscar-winner Clooney was discussing his family with the publication.

Speaking about his life before he met his wife, the human rights activist and lawyer Amal, Clooney said he thought he was satisfied.

“I'm gonna work, I've got great friends, my life is full, I'm doing well,” he said of how he felt. “And I didn't know how un-full it was until I met Amal. And then everything changed. And I was like, 'Oh, actually, this has been a huge empty space.'”

The actor added that he had “never been in the position where someone else's life was infinitely more important to me than my own. You know? And then tack on two more individuals, who are small and have to be fed…”

At which point his son Alexander walked into the room, prompting Clooney to say: “Oh, hey! Here's Alexander. Here's my son. Come here! Say hi! Say hello!”

He continued: “You've got chocolate on your face. Do you know that? What is that? Did you have chocolate?”

When Alexander confirmed that he had indeed eaten chocolate, Clooney joked: “How old are you now – 15?”

The toddler answered: “Three. Because I got my birthday.”

In the same interview, Clooney explained how and why he gave his 14 best friends $1m each seven years ago, just before he started dating Amal.

“I've slept on their couches when I was broke,” he said, revealing he wanted to repay them. “They loaned me money when I was broke. They helped me when I needed help over the years. And I've helped them over the years. We're all good friends.

“And I thought, you know, without them I don't have any of this. And we're all really close, and I just thought basically if I get hit by a bus, they're all in the will. So why the f*** am I waiting to get hit by a bus?”

Clooney can next be seen alongside Felicity Jones in the post-apocalyptic film The Midnight Sky, which arrives on Netflix on 23 December.
