Game of Thrones season 6: The episodes HBO are submitting for an Emmy
The show may, however, have a tough time beating last year's record-breaking run of 12 Emmy wins

As it should, with last year marking a banner year for the show's critical success, its 12 awards breaking the record for the most wins for a series in a single year. Considering the previous record-holder, The West Wing, had only won nine in 2000; it's difficult to see how even a show this gargantuan in its scope could surpass such a formidable record.
Not that it won't have a good go of it, with the Game of Thrones fansite Watchers on the Wall releasing the show's Emmy submissions for this year; with the series' climactic episode 9, "Battle of the Bastards", the seeming centrepiece of the show's creative efforts.
The episode has been submitted for Outstanding Writing for A Drama Series, with hopes of a nomination for David Benioff and D.B. Weiss; the sole submission for the category, certainly lifting hopes the episode will truly be as epic as everyone's been hoping. Something only further cemented by the fact it's the only episode to have been submitted to the Outstanding Special Visual Effects category.
In contrast, every director from this season has been submitted: Miguel Sapochnik for "Battle of the Bastards", Dan Sackheim for "Book of the Stranger", Jeremy Podeswa for "Home, Mark Mylod for "No One", and Jack Bender for "The Door".
Elsewhere, we can glimpse the usual suspects being pushed amongst the acting awards, though it's nice to see Carice van Houten's thrilling turn as Melisandre this year receive due notice. Ian McShane and Diana Rigg surprisingly haven't been submitted in the guest star category, though Max von Sydow's turn as The Three-Eyed Raven in "The Door" has.
And, of course, the show's been submitted for Oustanding Drama Series. The only question now is, will Game of Thrones retain its rule over the Emmys? Or is someone else waiting in the wings to take its place?
Television Academy voters are currently voting on nominations; with final nominations being announced 14 July. The Emmy Awards ceremony will take place 18 September.
