From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Actor Francia Raisa has condemned a pro-Donald Trump caravan for allegedly intimidating her and causing a near-crash in Los Angeles.

In a tearful Instagram Stories video, which she filmed shortly after the incident, Raisa claimed she had been driving down the 405 freeway when she got “boxed in” by the group of Trump supporters.

“They f***ing boxed me in, and they’re pointing at me and laughing at me,” the 32-year-old said. “I almost crashed because they wouldn’t let me out… all I wanted to do was go around and they were being so violent. I could have crashed.”

She added: “I don’t understand why that’s the country that y’all are supposedly wanting right now. Really? That’s what makes America great? That’s f***ed up. I could have f***ing died. [They were] pointing and laughing at a Mexican.”

Glee star Amber Riley later posted a video condemning the Trump supporters for scaring Raisa.

“Francia face-timed me freaking the f*** out today,” Riley said. “The little Trump rally on the 405 decided to box her in her f***ing car. A woman driving by herself. They saw a Mexican in her car and decided to f*** with her.”

A number of people shared footage of the caravan on the 405 on social media, showing cars with US flags and pro-Trump signs

Raisa is best-known for her roles in films such as Bring It On: All or Nothing opposite Hayden Panettiere, and for the sitcom Grown-ish.

In 2017, she donated one of her kidneys to her friend, singer and actor Selena Gomez, who was suffering complications from the autoimmune disease Lupus.

The Independent has contacted Raisa’s representative for comment.
