From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Segel wears Foster Walllace's trademark bandana and glasses in the image, which comes courtesy of a passer-by, looking puzzled as he moves through the Mall of the America.
General bemusement with the shallowness of modern America was a theme that came up time and time again in his work, with his articles and essays taking him to porn conventions and lobster festivals.
The End of the Tour is based on David Lipsy's book Although Of Course You End Up Becoming Yourself: A Road Trip With David Foster Wallace, with Jesse Eissenberg playing Lipsy.
The film will recall the long conversations the pair had on the road surrounding depression, women and the pros and cons of fame during one of Foster Wallace's promotional book tours.
Smashed's James Ponsoldt will direct the film, with Lipsky and Donald Margulies handling the screenplay.
