There's been an increasing push for better LGBT representation within its films, both animated and live-action; following a GLAAD study that found Disney was one of two studios which failed to feature any LGBT characters in its films last year.
The report suggested its expansive, and already diverse, Star Wars universe could be the best place to start; though fans have recently petitioned for Disney to make both Frozen's Queen Elsa and Marvel's Captain America LGBT characters in future movies.
Though we're yet to see any LGBT protagonists, Disney has clearly cottoned on that it's in need of great change; with the studio at least finding some place for LGBT representation, even if its quite minor in its visibility.
Frozen's Oaken, who owned the film's trading post, was briefly shown to have what appears to be a husband and children; whilst Zootopia's Judy Hopps is bothered by her noisy antelope neighbours, who happen to be both married and male (as confirmed by the double-barrelled surname).
Now, it looks as if Pixar's Finding Dory may introduce Disney's first lesbian couple to be featured in one of its films; with the new trailer featuring Tank the Octopus hiding out, pretending to be a baby in a carriage.
Foiled when the baby's (probable) parents turn around, and realise in horror, that their baby is now an eight-limbed creature; with fans noticing that both individuals are women.
Of course, we'll have to wait until the film's release to see whether the two characters are, indeed, in a couple; though it would be a wonderfully inclusive step from Disney, and proof that they are actually aware of their audiences, and the diversity of those audiences.
