From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

The true beacon of summer's arrival is the announcement of Film 4's annual Summer Screen event at London's Somerset House - and this year's line-up promises three premieres and a 20th-anniversary screening of a seminal British classic.

Things to Come and festival favourites Captain Fantastic and Julieta will get their UK premiere with the latter's Spanish director Pedro Almodóvar introducing the film in person.

Other films that'll screen at the outdoor event include Sunset Boulevard, 10 Things I Hate About You, Jackie Brown and Nicolas Rog classic Walkabout.

Elsewhere, a double bill of Ex_Machina and RoboCop will offer an evening of entertainment for sci-fi fans.

As was previously announced, Danny Boyle's Trainspotting will receive a 20th-anniversary screening on 15 August which we're frankly hoping will be followed by some kind of sneak peek at sequel T2, due to be released January 2017.

One of Stanley Kubrick's films will ALSO be shown in a surprise screening that'll coincide with Somerset House's new exhibition Daydreaming with Stanley Kubrick. It kicks off on 30 June.
