Your support helps us to tell the story

From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Ten years ago, telling someone a kinky Twilight fan-fiction series would morph into four best selling novels and spawn three blockbuster films would likely have you slapped around the face called an idiot. Yet, here we are.

Published under the pseudonym Snowqueen's Icedragon by E.L. James, Master of the Universe eventually became Fifty Shades of Grey, Fifty Shades Darker, Fifty Shades Freed, and Grey.

With months to go until release, the first teaser for Freed has been released, teasing marriage, sex, and melodrama. Appropriately, the tagline has changed into ‘Mrs. Grey will see you now’, having previously been ‘Mr. Grey will see you now’.

Freed was filmed back-to-back with the second instalment in the series, Darker, principle photography — directed by James Foley — taking place back in early 2016 under the working title Further Adventures of Max and Banks 2 & 3.

Unlike Fifty Shades of Grey, Darker and Freed’s screenplays were both written by Niall Leonard, E. L. James’s husband. Both Dakota Johnson and Jamie Dornan reprise their roles as Anastasia and Christian respectively.

Fifty Shades Freed reaches cinemas Valentines Day.
