With the first trailer for Fast & Furious 8 imminent, details on the franchise's next instalment are starting to ride in.

Most importantly, the film has a brand new title for US audiences - and it's as clunky as you'd hope from a series as bold as this one.

It's The Fate of the Furious. Naturally, fans are loving it.

One user based at IGN, however, noted that marketing producers missed a trick.

Production began on the latest film - the first of a final trilogy - this summer with Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson and Tyrese Gibson all returning for what is most likely going to be more of the entertaining same. New additions include Charlize Theron, Scott Eastwood and, yes, Helen Mirren.

Jason Statham is expected to reprise his role as British villain Deckard Shaw.

The official synopsis reads:

“Now that Dom and Letty are on their honeymoon and Brian and Mia have retired from the game - and the rest of the crew has been exonerated - the globetrotting team has found a semblance of a normal life. But when a mysterious woman (Theron) seduces Dom into the world of crime he can’t seem to escape and a betrayal of those closest to him, they will face trials that will test them as never before.”

The Fate of the Furious - still called Fast & Furious 8 in the UK - is directed by Straight Outta Compton's F. Gary Gray and will be released in the UK on 14 April 2017.
