From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

Depp reprises his role as the villain Grindelwald in the Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them sequel, which caused controversy due to the actor’s controversial behaviour over the past few years.
Miller, who plays Credence Barebone in the franchise, spoke with Playboy in a wide-ranging interview where he was asked about JK Rowling’s decision not to recast Depp’s role.
“No, none of us were consulted,” he said. “None of us knew.”
Asked about how he felt having to work alongside Depp, Miller gave a somewhat vague, tactful response: “Look, I bring forth my work to this job, and I do the best that I can. I would say that literally every single aspect of my reality, inclusive of a lot of things that are not fine with me, are fine with me. It’s amazing how far the banner of all good can extend.”
Last month, Depp seemed to confirm he will appear in the third Fantastic Beasts film. In an interview, he discussed possible future storylines for Grindelwald, saying: “The possibilities in that world are wide open, so you can really try anything. So it was a gas and I look forward to the next instalment.”
The film has received mixed to positive reviews from critics. The Independent’s Geoffrey Macnab said: “The film boasts an astonishing level of visual detail and inventiveness.
"The only drawback is that Rowling has included so many different characters and sub-plots that the narrative momentum is sometimes lost.”
