From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

News that Kit Harington had joined the cast of Eternals came as a surprise to his co-star Angelina Jolie.

“I still think we’re seeing each other behind the scenes, like, ‘Did you hear...?’ I didn’t know Kit was in the film! It’s a whole thing. I’m thrilled, but I had no idea,” the UN ambassador told Entertainment Tonight.

Jolie also teased the ensemble she will be wearing while playing her Eternals character Thena. “You get the outfit on and then you see your kids and the way they look at you like, ‘What are you doing?’ Then you get nicely brought back down to Earth, like, ‘You are so weird, mom!’”

It was announced at last night’s Disney D23 Expo, a major fan event held in Anaheim California, that the Game of Thrones actor had signed onto the Marvel blockbuster and will play Dane Whitman or the Black Knight.

While Whitman is not himself one of the cosmic beings known as The Eternals, he is a human in possession of a mystical sword inherited from his villainous ancestry.

He is also known for his romantic relationship with Sersi, a member of The Eternals who will be played by Gemma Chan in the film.

Chan, playing a different Marvel character to the one she played in Captain Marvel, appeared on stage at D23 alongside the rest of the star-studded Eternals cast, which includes Jolie, Richard Madden, Salma Hayek, Brian Tyree Henry, Kumail Nanjiani and Barry Keoghan.

The film will be released in November next year.
