Emily Blunt wanted to appear in A Quiet Place so much she asked the director - her husband John Krasinski - to fire her friend from the role.

The two were appearing on BBC chat show The Graham Norton Show to promote the new horror film when Blunt revealed she wasn't initially interested in starring until she read the script.

Prior to this, she had suggested an actor she calls a “good friend” whom she thought would fit the role

“We had just had our second child and I was about to do Mary Poppins [Returns] and so I was in a sort of general feeling of joy, I didn’t know if I wanted to go towards the darkness of the pitch that he’d given me,” she said.

However, after reading the script which Krasinski co-wrote alongside Scott Beck and Bryan Woods, she told her husband: “You need to call her and fire her.“

Blunt quipped that her friendship with the actor would last “until the movie comes out,“ adding: “[Krasinski] didn’t send her a script admittedly [so] she wasn’t hired.”

The film's plot follows a family of four who must live life in silence while hiding from creatures that hunt by sound.

In December, Blunt will star in the Mary Poppins sequel that will see the eponymous nanny return to visit the grown-up versions of Michael and Jane Banks.
