Emily Blunt turned down two major Marvel roles, including Black Widow, the English actress has revealed.
The Into the Woods star denies being offered the part of Captain Marvel in the studio’s upcoming first female-led superhero movie however, brushing off rumours as “fan-casting”.
“No one’s offered me that officially so it’s very unofficial,” she told Vulture. “I think it’s fan-casting, which is always very nice. But nothing official has been offered, for sure. If I get it, thank Meryl [Streep] for it!”
Blunt did confirm that she could have played Peggy Carter and Black Widow, roles that eventually went to Hayley Atwell and Scarlett Johansson respectively.
“Yeah, but it was never the right time, really, and it just didn’t work out scheduling-wise with those two,” she added.
“It’s always a difficult thing to talk about, because it’s not fair to the actresses who ended up playing them, you know? It just wasn’t the right time.”
Blunt, known for The Devil Wears Prada and Edge of Tomorrow, will next be seen playing a young FBI agent in crime drama Sicario, before starring in Rupert Friend’s Barton & Charlie & Checco & Bill.
