From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. Dylan O’Brien was left “f***ing broken” as a result of a traumatic car accident on the set of the final Maze Runner film, the actor has revealed.

O’Brien required reconstructive surgery in 2016 after being pulled from a moving car and struck by another while filming an action sequence in the Maze Runner sequel The Death Cure.

Among the injuries O’Brien sustained included a concussion, a facial fracture and brain trauma. Production on the film was shut down for almost a year, as a result of O’Brien being required for almost every scene in the film.

O’Brien has now revealed he was “a mess” following the incident.

“I had a rough and long road back from that, probably more than people realise,” he told Deadline Hollywood. “It was a very private and personal thing for me. I was going through that s*** for a long time.”

He continued: “A lot of things in my life were changing and were difficult at that time. A lot of things in my career were changing too. I was fighting it for a while, and freaking out that I felt so f***ing broken. I had to accept that and sink into it.”

O’Brien, who also starred in the TV series Teen Wolf, previously claimed he was in “a dark place” in the wake of the on-set accident.

The Deepwater Horizon actor is promoting his new action thriller Love and Monsters, and will next be seen in the Mark Wahlberg sci-fi film Infinite.
