From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

“Twitter, as you know, makes it very easy for people to say terrible things to each other, especially to famous people,” begins Jimmy Kimmel as he introduces his live ‘Mean Tweet Week’ segment.

Kimmel has previously released montages of celebrities reading out the terrible things people say about them on Twitter, but this time things were a little different: he invited Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson, Bette Midler and Liam Neeson to read them live.

First up was Johnson: “I’m really sick of seeing The Rock… blah blah blah Dwayne Johnson… blah blah blah candy a*s movie star… blah blah blah go such it.”

His response? “I’ll give you something to suck.” Ouch. Watch below.

Next up was Midler, who read: “Some people ask me who has the biggest penis in Hollywood. Easy. Bette Midler.” She seemed to take it as a compliment.

Then, it was ‘Taken’ star Neeson’s go to get a grilling: “Liam Neeson is a butterface,” he began. “In that his face looks like a butt. Eat s**t fart breath Neeson.” *Sad face Neeson emoticon*
