From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Your support makes all the difference.

Dwayne Johnson tastes his own blood in a new Instagram video in which he celebrates the value of gym injuries.

The Jumanji star, otherwise known as The Rock, is seen in the video with blood trickling down his temple, and claims that things had become “intense” during a workout.

"Alright, look,” Johnson says. “Sometimes – well, oftentimes, things get intense here in the Iron Paradise, but we ain’t playing tiddlywinks and we ain’t reciting nursery rhymes.

“You get bumped up every once in a while and things happen.”

Johnson then wipes blood from his temple onto his finger, before giving it a lick.

“That’s good!” Johnson responds. “That’s real good. Now back to work.”

In a caption, Johnson claimed that his blood tasted like “black and Samoan hot sauce” – a reference to his ethnicity.

Johnson recently went viral because of another feat of masculine boasting, after revealing in September that he had ripped down a security gate using his bare hands.

The typically apolitical Johnson also recently announced his support for Joe Biden in next month’s US presidential election.
