From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Charlotte Rampling will join the cast of Denis Villeneuve‘s new adaptation of Dune, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

The actor, who was Oscar-nominated for her performance in 2015’s 45 Years, will join the likes of Timothée Chalamet, Rebecca Ferguson, Dave Bautista, and Stellan Skarsgard.

Villeneuve’s film will offer a second adaptation of Frank Herbert’s famous sci-fi novel, following David Lynch’s 1984 film starring Kyle MacLachlan and Patrick Stewart. Filming is set to take place in Budapest and Jordan this spring.

The book tells the story of a young Paul Atreides, whose noble family accepts the stewardship of the planet Arrakis, an inhospitable wasteland that is also the only source of a rare drug known as “spice”, only to be betrayed by the galactic empire.

Rampling will play the Reverend Mother Mohiam, the emperor’s truthsayer.

Villeneuve produces the project, having also written the film’s script, alongside A Star is Born‘s Eric Roth and Prometheus‘s Jon Spaihts.
