Your support helps us to tell the story
From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.
Your support makes all the difference. The Duchess of York attended the world premiere of The Young Victoria, declaring that it was the culmination of 15 years of dreaming.
It was the Duchess's idea to make a film about Queen Victoria's early years with Prince Albert. She is a co-producer of the film, which charts the young Victoria's ascension to the throne, focussing on her early turbulent years.
Sarah was accompanied by her daughters, Princesses Beatrice and Eugenie.
Beatrice makes a fleeting movie debut in a non-speaking role as a lady-in-waiting to the monarch, her great-great-great-great-grandmother.
The carpet at the star-studded premiere in London's Leicester Square was a regal shade of purple.
Wearing a purple Vivienne Westwood dress, the Duchess said of Beatrice: "I'm so proud. Every day, I'm proud."
She said of the event: "I'm very lucky, this is magic isn't it? If you dare to dream one day your dream could come true."
She said the film was the result of "15 years of dreaming", and added that when you were her age "you just go for it".
The film stars Emily Blunt as Victoria and Rupert Friend as Albert. Asked if he was too glamorous to play the role, Friend said: "I've been told I look just like him."
Other stars in the field, Jim Broadbent and Miranda Richardson were also at the event.
