From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.

At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.

The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Ryan Reynolds has shared a new trailer for the forthcoming Pokémon movie Detective Pikachu, in which he voices the title character.

“He’ll follow those clues no matter where they... oh look, something shiny,” the actor wrote next to the two-minute, 24-second clip.

The movie, set to be released on 10 May 2019, focuses on a former Pokémon trainer named Tim Goodman, who searches for his missing detective father Harry Goodman with Pikachu’s help.

In the new clip, Pikachu explains he first met Tim after waking up “with a heavy case of amnesia in the middle of nowhere” and finding Harry’s name and address written on a label inside his hat.

Tim and Pikachu are seen on their quest to find Tim’s father, with Tim somewhat reluctantly partnering with the creature.

Several other characters from the Pokémon universe make their appearances, including Charizard, Cubone and Eevee – and even a slightly sombre-looking Mewtwo (a character that, as Pokémon fans will recall, rarely means good news).

The trailer ends with a humorous sequence involving Mr Mime, while the entire clip is powered by Bonnie Tyler’s 1984 “Holding Out For a Hero”.

Reynolds published a photo of himself with his “Pika-Dots” (the CGI dots drawn on his face) back in December 2018.

The previous month, he shared the first Detective Pikachu trailer, writing: ”I think we all knew I’d wind up as a miniature detective repeatedly saying the same two words. Just didn’t think it’d be this soon.”
