From reproductive rights to climate change to Big Tech, The Independent is on the ground when the story is developing. Whether it's investigating the financials of Elon Musk's pro-Trump PAC or producing our latest documentary, 'The A Word', which shines a light on the American women fighting for reproductive rights, we know how important it is to parse out the facts from the messaging.
At such a critical moment in US history, we need reporters on the ground. Your donation allows us to keep sending journalists to speak to both sides of the story.
The Independent is trusted by Americans across the entire political spectrum. And unlike many other quality news outlets, we choose not to lock Americans out of our reporting and analysis with paywalls. We believe quality journalism should be available to everyone, paid for by those who can afford it.

Reynolds, who voices Pikachu in the comedy mystery film, shared an image of himself with his face covered with black dots, which make it possible to track his movements.
His photo is split with a shot of the CGI version of Pikachu to better show the results of the production process.
Reynolds referred to the markings as “Pika-dots”. The photo makes it clear that the dots went all the way from his forehead to his chin in order to capture every movement of the actor’s face.
The first official trailer for Detective Pikachu came out in November, giving viewers a taste of what’s to come when the film debuts in May 2019.
Pokémon superfan Tim Goodman (played by Justice Smith) can be seen in the clip meeting Pikachu.
The Pokémon is thrilled when he realises Tim can understand what he says, when other humans can only make out “Pika Pika” whenever he opens his mouth.
Pikachu, now wearing a Sherlock-Holmes-style deerstalker, refers to himself as a “world-class detective” and urges Tim to partner up with him to find his missing father.
It was revealed last year that the Deadpool star would voice Pikachu.
Detective Pikachu, which is mostly a live-action movie with the addition of animated Pokémons, is a joint American and Japanese production.
“I think we all knew I’d wind up as a miniature detective repeatedly saying the same two words,” Reynolds tweeted when the trailer was released. “Just didn’t think it’d be this soon.”
